More News from Bonymaen

Yes Christmas is coming fast. But for Shane Prosser the Manager of the Co-operative Bank in the Kingsway ‘fast’ is taking on a rather different meaning.

The Co-operative bank have made the East Side Food Bank at Bonymaen their charity for December and Shane is taking on the food bank challenge this week and living on a typical emergency food package.

Revd. Chris Lewis who chairs East Side Food Bank, a registered charity set up by the local community said, “ We are immensely grateful to Shane and the team at the Co-op Bank for their support; the need for the service has grown over the year and half plus we’ve been open.  Food bank packages are unavoidably a bit basic but I hope Shane will come out of the experience maybe feeling a little leaner than usual but ready well-deserved Christmas treats.”

This Christmas, East Side Food Bank team is planning to add as many Christmas items to the basic emergency packages as they can. Things like chocolate and Christmas Puddings are needed but the basics, non-perishable foods, along with soap, toiletries, and toothpaste are always needed. The East Side Food Bank’s Facebook page gives all the information and is regularly updated with shortages and the latest news.

Gifts of food can be received at the Co-op Bank at 34 The Kingsway, Swansea. One of the Food Bank’s trademark green boxes is waiting. There are also collecting boxes for cash donations for running expenses and topping up shortages.

The story was in the South Wales Evening Post.

What the young people from Bonymaen did this summer

For three days, 10, 11 and 12 August, some of the young people from Bonymaen challenged themselves to make the best they could for their meals from non-perishable and tinned foods that their local food bank can provide to people in a crisis. You can read more on their story at South Wales Evening Post.
